|Doomsayer was so titled based upon my use of artillery for percussion, and the overall melancholy and lonesome feel of the piece. I set out to create a pounding techno piece, but the song apparently had other intentions. I began by scouring the web for .wav files of cannons and other military hardware with which to create a drum loop. After combining several explosions, a rifle shot, and the buzz of a Vulcan cannon I indeed had a drum loop, but not the one I originally intended. Instead of being dark and upbeat as I had planned, the piece evolved as a slow, dark, almost dirge-like processional. On top of the plodding rhythm of artillery I overlaid a haunting, melancholy, bell-like phrase and a powerful brassy countermelody. The resultant piece is perhaps the most individual of the ten tracks, being the only slow piece, and the only piece to use samples. While it is the earliest of my pieces, it is also one of the pieces to receive the most acclaim from listeners.
